If left untreated, Chlamydia can cause serious long-term complications. In women, it can spread to the uterus and fallopian tubes, causing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which may lead to chronic pain, ectopic pregnancy, or infertility. In men, it can cause epididymitis — inflammation of the tubes near the testicles — which can also affect fertility.
